EGYPT WELCOMES TRUMP’S DECISION TO CANCEL PLANNED STRIKES ON IRAN

Egypt welcomed US President Donald Trump’s decision to cancel planned military strikes against Iran, describing it as an important opportunity to advance diplomacy and prevent a renewed escalation in the region. Cairo’s statement added that the move creates favorable conditions for reaching broader agreements that could help end the conflict and lay the groundwork for a more stable regional order.
Egypt’s role: Egypt’s Foreign Ministry continues to work closely with regional and international partners to de-escalate tensions and encourage negotiations that address the concerns of all sides. The ministry also reiterated its support for Gulf states, emphasizing that their security and sovereignty remain closely linked to Egypt’s own national security and rejecting any threats against them.
A make-or-break moment for diplomacy: After months of conflict and economic disruption across the Middle East, the cancellation of the strikes offers a potential pathway toward a broader US-Iran agreement — something Egypt sees as critical for restoring regional stability, protecting trade routes, and shifting attention back to unresolved crises such as Gaza.

ANIMAL WELFARE | STRAY DOGS | VACCINATION
EGYPT TARGETS VACCINATING 70% OF STRAY DOGS IN NATIONAL RABIES DRIVE

Egypt is ramping up efforts to control rabies and improve animal welfare, with authorities aiming to vaccinate at least 70 percent of the country’s stray dog population under a nationwide program. Rather than relying solely on population control measures, the initiative focuses on vaccination, monitoring, and humane management practices to address public health concerns while improving animal welfare standards.
A global effort: The campaign is being carried out in coordination with international organizations and veterinary experts, who consider mass vaccination the most effective long-term method for combating rabies. Authorities say increasing vaccination coverage will help reduce the risk of human infections, improve public safety, and support broader efforts to manage interactions between stray animals and local communities.
Rabies remains one of the world’s deadliest preventable diseases. By targeting 70 percent vaccination coverage among stray dogs, Egypt hopes to make significant progress toward controlling the disease while adopting a more sustainable and humane approach to stray animal management.

PRIVATIZATION | WATANIYA | ENERGY
TAQA ARABIA ACQUIRES STAKE IN WATANIYA FUEL STATIONS IN MAJOR PRIVATIZATION STEP

Egyptian energy company TAQA Arabia has signed an agreement to acquire a stake in 172 Wataniya fuel stations, marking one of the most significant privatization moves involving a military-owned business in recent years. Under the deal, the stations will be transferred to a newly established joint venture called Quick Fuel. TAQA Arabia will initially hold a 10 percent stake, with the option to increase its ownership by an additional 15 percent once the company is listed on the Egyptian Exchange (EGX).
Reform efforts: The transaction aligns with Egypt’s State Ownership Policy and the government’s broader effort to expand the private sector’s role in the economy through its privatization and IPO program. Wataniya is one of several Armed Forces-affiliated companies being prepared for public listing and private investment.
The deal is a notable milestone in Egypt’s long-promised privatization agenda. Beyond the fuel sector, it signals progress toward opening more state-owned assets to private investment—a key reform sought by investors, international lenders, and the government itself to boost economic growth and reduce pressure on public finances.
